We approach your situation individually and holistically

You are not coming to GRSM “to just get a needle”.  Non-injection treatment can have a powerful impact on healing.  Examples include strengthening and correcting underlying biomechanical deficits in your body; nutritional changes to help healing potential; losing weight in treating osteoarthritis; and changes in how you move and go about your activities.

We are committed to providing high quality comprehensive assessment and medical care to ensure that injection therapy is appropriate for you.   The GRSM Injection Clinic physician will see you for a thorough consultation to review your medial history, perform a physical examination and review test results.  The first step is to ensure that an accurate diagnosis is made, then treatment options are reviewed.  We take pleasure in discussing your overall medical situation as it relates to your injury, including recommending non-injection treatment that could help you, not just injections.  It is very important that you understand your sports injury or osteoarthritis, and what your opportunities are for getting better.  If injection therapy is appropriate, you will then be able to discuss in detail, and decide upon the most effective type of injection for your individual situation.

We help you to learn how to take control of your situation and to help yourself heal

A very important part of treating your sports injury or osteoarthritis is understanding as much as possible about your condition or injury, and then being well-informed about the treatment options available to you.  The GRSM Injection Physician strives to understand your goals and unique situation to be able to best help you.  Thorough education and two-way conversations between you and your GRSM Injection Physician are a big part of getting better, and afford you ample opportunity to have your questions answered.  In addition, the GRSM Injection Clinic will provide you with appropriate written information so that you can learn on your own time and have a resources to refer back to.

You can feel reassured that you are receiving the best care

The GRSM Injection Clinic utilizes cutting-edge equipment and technology to optimize results.  GRSM injection physicians are specially trained to do ultrasound-guided injections to maximize accuracy and effectiveness of injections.  They also undertake regular ongoing training to further knowledge and skills in injection technique, including reputable injection training across North America.    The GRSM Injection Clinic also maintains very high standards in prevention infection and other complications using our specially equipped medical injection rooms.

“Blind” injections have been the traditional way that injections have been done in medicine.  However, research indicates that using ultrasound to guide the needle to the right location makes the injection much more accurate and thereby the injection more successful.  For example, knee injections are viewed by many to be an “easy” injection, however, research indicates that the accuracy of “blind” intra-articular knee joint injections is approximately 70%, compared to Ultrasound-Guided injections which have an accuracy that approaches 100%.  This accuracy is important to try to ensure success and minimize side effects.  For more information click here.

In the past, traditional medicine has focused on a “band-aid” type of approach which tends treat pain and symptoms rather than trying to heal and fix the underlying problem.  As described here, non-injection treatment options can have a powerful influence on healing and recovery.  In addition, the GRSM Injection Clinic has a strong focus on Regenerative injections such as Platelet-Rich Plasma and Stem Cells.  These injections harness your body’s own tissue (e.g., growth factors, hormones, stem cells) to power the healing and regeneration of the injured body part.  For example, research has shown that Platelet-Rich plasma injections (click here) may help to regenerate damaged cartilage in osteoarthritis and can have a healing effect on tendons.  Stem cell procedures are another example of regenerative treatment with a strong healing potential. The GRSM Injection Clinic uses rigorous methods to ensure your safety and comfort when you come for an injection.  Anyone who is going to have an injection needs to be aware that every injection has inherent risks that include infection, bleeding, allergic reactions, etc. (for more information about possible complications of injections, click here).  The risk of infection is one of the most concerning risks with an injection, however, according to research(reference), the statistical risk is very small at 1:10,000 to 1:20,000.

At the time of the injection appointment, similar to what is done in a hospital, we take very diligent precautions to minimize risk of infection.  This process includes very carefully disinfecting your skin and using sterile disposable gloves and needles.  All of the injection supplies at GRSM are sterile and disposable, and we even use sterile covers and sterile gel for the ultrasound probe.  Of note, GRSM has never had a post-injection infection since its inception in 2002.  For PRP and stem cell injections, we only handle one person’s blood and tissue at a time so there is never any risk of cross contamination between patients.

Patient comfort is maximized by various methods such as careful and skilled injection technique which is assisted by using ultrasound guidance (i.e., not “jabbing” the wrong tissue), and using appropriate analgesia (“freezing”) for the injections.

Leading-edge Technology and Techniques

GRSM injection physicians are specially trained to do ultrasound-guided injections to maximize accuracy and effectiveness of injections, and maintain ongoing training to further knowledge and skills. The GRSM Injection Clinic utilizes cutting-edge equipment and technology to optimize results. GRSM Clinic Injection physicians have completed training across North America.

Ultrasound-Guided Injections

“Blind” injections have been the traditional way that injections have been done in medicine. However, research indicates that using ultrasound to guide the needle to the right location makes the injection much more accurate and thereby the injection more successful. For example, knee injections are viewed by many to be an “easy” injection, however, research indicates that the accuracy of “blind” intra-articular knee joint injections is approximately 70%, compared to Ultrasound-Guided injections which have an accuracy that approaches 100%. Regenerate…Heal the Tissue

Traditional medicine has focused on a “band-aid” type of approach which tends treat pain and symptoms rather than trying to heal and fix the underlying injury or condition. Besides the other aspects of treating your condition with a condition with a comprehensive approach (e.g., strengthening underlying biomechanics deficits in your body for sports injuries, or losing weight in treating osteoarthritis, or nutritional changes to help healing potential), the GRSM Injection Clinic has a strong focus on Regenerative injections. These injections harness your body’s own tissue (e.g., growth factors, hormones, stem cells) to power the healing and regeneration of the injured body part. For example, research has shown that Platelet-Rich plasma injections may help to regenerate damaged cartilage in osteoarthritis. Stem cell procedures are another example, however, the Canadian Government has placed a stop on Stem Cell injections conducted in clinics in Canada, and therefore, GRSM is abiding by these regulations.

Safety and Comfort

The GRSM Injection Clinic uses rigorous methods to ensure your safety when to come for an injection. The risk of infection is one of the most concerning risks with an injection, however, the statistical risk is 1:10,000 to 1:20,000. In addition, GRSM has never had a post-injection infection since inception in 2002. Patient comfort is maximized by various methods such as careful injection technique which is assisted by using ultrasound guidance (i.e., not jabbing the wrong tissue), and using appropriate analgesia (“freezing”) for the injections.
